Portrait of a Cedar

Inspiring Minds, Enriching Lives, Shaping Futures -- that is the mission of the Lebanon School District, and since 1852, our parents, staff and community have shown unbreakable dedication to the students of Lebanon. With consideration to this history, it is with pride that we are introducing our Portrait of a Cedar initiative!

We believe that every student can achieve excellence with parent and community support, guided by our staff's expertise and experience in education. The Portrait of a Cedar initiative has identified seven competencies that all Cedars will successfully demonstrate before graduation from the Lebanon School District.

- Competencies -

• Adaptable - Balancing diverse viewpoints to reach workable solutions, exhibiting steadfastness, demonstrating resilience, and pursing additional information to refine understanding. 
• Communicator - Articulating thoughts and ideas effectively, asking questions to seek understanding, engaging in productive discourse, and listening respectfully to decipher meaning.
• Creative - Demonstrating originality, imagination, and new ways of thinking about problems, translating ideas into viable solutions, and utilizing multi-dimensional resources.
• Critical Thinker - Understanding the big picture, proposing evidence-based solutions mindful of positive and negative impacts, evaluating and prioritizing solutions, and seeking conflict resolution.
• Empathetic - Demonstrating understanding, sensitivity, and respect for others' feelings, opinions, and experiences, while valuing diverse cultures and unique perspectives.
• Leader - Establishing a culture of trust and compassion, empowering stakeholders to grow and succeed, understanding when to lead and when to follow.
• Personally Responsible -  Acting honestly and with care for the community and the greater good, honoring commitments, adhering consistently to core values, and reflecting on previous experiences.

The Portrait of a Cedar initiative will further connect our students, parents, staff, administrators and community members, creating another milestone in Lebanon's rich legacy and the important moments of achievement in the lives of our students. Through partnership and development, Portrait of a Cedar will ensure that: 

• Students will approach their education with curiosity, focus and mindfulness towards their goals.
• Staff will embrace and leverage the strength that comes from  the diversity of our community and students, and will provide exceptional learning environments and experiences that support each learner's goals.
• Administration will work with all stakeholders to develop and support a system that meets the needs of every learner and celebrates their success. 
• Parents will work as a crucial partner with staff to ensure a strong network of support to ensure each learner has the tools needed to achieve their goals and aspirations. 
• Community Members will demonstrate the unbreakable nature of a Cedar by engaging in constructive dialogue, lending expertise, and providing learning opportunities for students. 

We are excited to showcase the evolution of the Portrait of a Cedar initiative, including the sharing of our first learner lessons and their results! Together, we will ensure the continued success of our learners and growth of our community, because together, we share an UNBREAKABLE legacy!
