Athletics Training

Athletic Trainers

Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) play a crucial role in the health care of teams and student-athletes. ATCs  work closely with physicians, coaches, and other medical professionals to ensure athletes' health and safety. The Lebanon ATC team provide the following services to our athletic community:

  1. Injury/Illness Prevention: ATCs are involved in designing and implementing injury prevention programs, such as warm-ups, stretching routines, and strength training. They also provide education on proper equipment and techniques to reduce the risk of injuries.
  2. Emergency Care: ATCs are trained to respond to emergencies like fractures, dislocations, concussions, and other acute injuries. They are often the first responders in situations involving sports injuries and are trained in CPR, first aid, and advanced emergency care techniques.
  3. Clinical Diagnosis: ATCs have the skills to assess injuries and conditions in athletes. They conduct physical examinations, take medical histories, and sometimes use diagnostic tools to help identify the nature and severity of injuries. They also provide referrals to physicians or specialists when necessary.
  4. Therapeutic Intervention: After an injury, ATCs design and implement treatment plans that include modalities like heat, cold, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation. They may also use therapeutic exercises to help athletes recover from injuries and improve their physical function.
  5. Rehabilitation: ATCs are essential in the rehabilitation process after an injury. They work closely with athletes to restore strength, flexibility, and range of motion, using various exercises, stretching techniques, and functional training to help athletes return to their sport safely.
  6. Education and Counseling: ATCs provide education to athletes, coaches, and even parents on topics such as nutrition, injury prevention, and the importance of proper rest and recovery. They also serve as a resource for understanding injury risks and recovery expectations.
